Filbert The Fox Loves To Play With A Box

Filbert the fox loves to play with a box.
A big box, a small box, a short box, a tall box,

A red box, a blue box, a sock box, a shoe box.
There’s a ring box (too small), and a postbox (too tall),

A match box, a toy box, a white box, a black box.
There’s a box that says “candles”,

Another with handles.
A box made from wood,

And another from card.
A box made from tin, which Fil bangs with a spoon,

And one with a picture of stars and a moon.
A brown box is good,

If it’s card and not wood.
Fil’ can draw on it using a pencil.

This picture’s a zoo,
With a panda or two,

And animals drawn with a stencil.
A cake box, a hat box, and a box full of crocs,

A box full of crocs, fancy standing on that box!
There’s a box, on a box, on a box, on a box,

Filbert climbs up ’til he gets to the top box.
There’s a box with some swirls, and a box with some stripes,

And a box with a sun and a rainbow.
There’s another with roses, all painted with posies,

And another with sparkles and bows.
Filbert the fox, climbs into a box,

And now it’s a boat with a sail on.
Then it’s a train — now a car, then a plane,

Then a house — and now it’s a cat box!
(Hello Kitty. Have you come to play?)

This box is tall, like a high castle wall,
And this box is long, like a stable.

There’s a box made for biscuits, and a box made for sweets,
Filbert uses this box as a table.

This box is dad’s, full of cottons and wools,
And this one is mum’s for her spanners and tools.

This box is for books, and fits under Fil’s bed,
And this box has all his toy cars in.

Filbert, what’s in that box?
A Jack-In-A-Box!

Not a fox in a box.
Fil’ — don’t stand on that box!

Now Filbert’s pretending he is a spaceman,
In a box he thinks is a rocket which flies.

He’s taking a clock, and his bear, and a dustpan,
A milkshake, a sausage, and two sweet apple pies.

“It’s time for your bath, Mr Spaceman,” says dad.
Leave behind your starry space-station.

It’s lovely to see, all the fun to be had,
When you play using imagination.

All little foxes, like to play in big boxes.
