Meet Your Spirit Animal Ally

Linking to your spirit animal ally

According to shamanic philosophy, before the fall of man — when humans were cast out of paradise — people were able to communicate with animals and divine beings alike.

Learning to connect to your personal spirit animal ally is a rewarding step on your spiritual journey. In order to do this, you have to lift your vibrational energy from the auric level to that of the astral plane. You will need to cleanse and expand all your chakra points, making a particular point of ensuring that your throat and brow chakra are working to their optimum level.

The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle said: “There is nothing in the mind that did not enter through the senses.” Knowledge is acquired through the senses and understanding comes after experience. It is essential, therefore, that you be in touch with your senses, especially your sixth-sense.

In preparation for your meditation I suggest that you cleanse your aura and the environment in which you are going to sit. If you can tolerate the smoke, do this by burning white sage (you can use a sage smudge-stick) to banish any negativity. If not, simply have a shower.

You can further set the scene by playing music, perhaps the sounds of nature such as bird song, soft breezes, moving water — the vibrational energy of these sounds help to raise your consciousness and connect you to the energies of the Earth and the nature spirits and elementals that inhabit the astral plane. Alternatively you could simply sit outdoors for your meditation.

If you can tolerate the smoke, burn incense or a fragrant oil — choose a flower aroma such as Gardenia — this is excellent for stimulating the telepathic skills and will help you to communicate with spirit on many levels. If not, arrange a vase of fragrant flowers in your mediation area, or use pot-pourri.

During this preliminary period of preparation there is a facilitation of the flow of energy between your etheric subtle body and the universal energies. This will hone your senses and help you to become more aware of spirit energy.

When you have prepared your space, sit or lie down somewhere comfortable, somewhere you will not be disturbed, and begin your meditation.

From your spirit animal ally you can learn the lessons of ancient wisdoms and connect with your ancestors. You will learn about the paradox of life, about being human and what this means to your relationship with the planet and within the vastness of the universe.

Your spirit animal ally passes to you knowledge and a vision for your future. Ask your questions of it and it will guide you through periods of darkness. Do not expect to remember or understand your meditation immediately. The knowledge is within you and, when it is needed it will be made available to you, and you will know it.

Be grateful for the power that your spirit friends and animal allies have given to you and be secure in the knowledge that, whenever they are needed, they will be there for you. They are only a thought away, and they will never desert you.

Be aware of the presence of your spirit animal ally, even when you are not meditating, as it can communicate with you at other times, and can guide you and help you to make decisions and deal with issues.

If it is easier, you may like to record this mediation so that you can play it back to yourself to guide your meditation journey.

A guided meditation to meet your spirit animal ally

Visualise a country lane. Begin to walk along the lane. Become conscious of the vibrancy of the colours of the flowers and vegetation, the aromas of the blossoms, earth and crops. Feel the warm breeze on you skin and listen to the sounds of the birds, insects and other creatures that inhabit this countryside.

Look ahead of you. There is a white gate. Walk towards the gate. When you reach it there is someone waiting for you. This is your gatekeeper, your spirit guide and protector. Greet your gatekeeper. Ask them to open the gate so that you can enter into the space beyond. When this gate opens and you walk through it you have stepped over the temporal horizon. You have made the transition from the physical plane to the spiritual plane.

As you pass through the gate, stop and look about you. Where are you? What can you see? What are the colours like? What can you see, smell, hear, taste and touch?

In the middle of this scene is a large tree. It is hundreds of years old, the trunk is thick and dark brown, and it is topped with a halo of olive green leaves. Make you way to the tree. As you near it you can hear the leaves trembling, and the sound is like a million whispers. These whispers are the voices of the dryads that occupy the tree. They are calling to you.

When you reach the tree walk around it three times. Touch the trunk, sense the tree’s aura, greet its spirits and ask their permission to sit with them. When you are ready, and you have obtained the dryads permission, sit down between the tree’s strong roots. Make yourself comfortable.

Now, ask your spirit guides to draw close to you — feel their presence, ask them to protect you. Invite your spirit animal ally to make itself known to you.

You see a shadow in the distant lilac mist, you watch as its form becomes larger and more solid. You feel the vibrational energy change as it approaches. When your animal ally is fully formed, let your aura touch and blend as you begin to understand the lessons that your spirit animal has come to teach you. Take as much time as you need to commune with this spirit friend.

Your spirit animal ally begins to move away — feel your aura change as you disconnect — it fades back into the distant mist. As it leaves thank your animal ally for showing itself to you and for sharing its wisdom. Thank your spirit guides for their company and protection, thank the dryads of the tree for their company, thank the tree for its energy and shelter.

Now, rise and make your way back to the white gate. When you get to the gate pause for a moment and watch as the lilac mists gather behind you. Walk to the gate, thank the gatekeeper and ask them to shut the gate firmly behind you. Pass through the gate. Return to the physical world. Wander back down the country lane to your starting point. As you do so, the sounds and the colours fade.

Become aware of your physical surroundings once again. Take three deep breaths and open your eyes, stretch and return once again to the mundane. You are now ready to carry on with your day.

Before returning to your everyday activities surround yourself with a cloak of protective energy. Imagine that you are the golden yolk of an egg within an impenetrable silver eggshell.
